PayPal is the safer, easier way to pay and get paid online. The service allows anyone to pay in any way they prefer, including through credit cards, bank accounts, buyer credit or account balances, without sharing financial information.

PayPal has quickly become a global leader in online payment solutions with more than 153 million accounts worldwide. Available in 190 markets and 24 currencies around the world, PayPal enables global ecommerce by making payments possible across different locations, currencies, and languages.

Purchased in 2002 by Ebay, PayPal today is a global reference. In this moment this company chose Brazil to be its base of operations in Latin America. Since the form of payment used by 13% of Brazilian Internet users who buy online, the company recognizes its importance in the Brazilian (and Latin America) market.

“You cannot remain indifferent to these numbers. And we’re talking about a customer base that we did not experience anything in the country,” said Director of Strategy René Pelegero during the E-Commerce Summit in Sao Paulo.

P.S.: According to research conducted by VisaNet in Latin America, in 2012 electronic commerce will be moving US$ 13 billion in the country (twice as Mexico and Argentina), which means a growth projection of 21% per annum. Today online sales move US$ 7 billion in Brazil.

Paypal Now Make Payments to Brazilian Banks

Despite PayPal’s operations in Latin America are not yet very significant, this company shows its internationalization process by implementing transfers in Brazil.

Brazilian banks that already accept transfer of money by PayPal are: Banco do Brasil, Bradesco, Itaú, Banco Real Santander, HSBC, UNIBANCO, Caixa Econômica Federal e Nossa Caixa.

Brazil expects greater participation of PayPal, to have competition with other local services like PayPal and MoIP.

In October the number of new active users surpassed the month of September with 3.9 million. Increasing the region to 39.3 million active users.

Spanish is the predominant language of the vast majority of Latin Americans. The official language is Portuguese from Brazil, but is spoken by 34% of the population of Latin America, and French is spoken in Haiti, in some Caribbean islands and French Guiana.

Economy and Industry

The economy of Latin America is considered underdeveloped, because much of the population occupies the primary sector. Only a few countries have significant portions of the economically active population in the secondary sector. But the tertiary sector is the fastest growing in almost all Latin American countries.

Few countries reaching projection in industrial activity: Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and with less emphasis Chile. But they bring a diversity and sophistication very large, producing items of advanced technology.
